In geocaching, some find and some hide. Finding a cache is truly exciting. But, hiding a cache, believe it or not, is on a whole different level. With more and more people joining the movement, more and more cache owners are being creative on how they hide the cache.

If you are about to hide a cache of your own, here are some pointers to make the entire experience more memorable for you and all other geocachers out there. If you have some ideas of your own, feel free to share them, please.

Puzzle and Mystery

If you think geocaching is just finding a Tupperware in the middle of the forest or the woods, then you have another thing coming. In geocaching, most people can find caches through their GPS. That is as simple as booking an Uber to get to a restaurant.

These days, owners are shaking things up. For some, the destination you see on your smartphone is merely a clue getting you closer to the real treasure. That is where you get creative. It is up to you on how you will integrate puzzle and mystery in the geocaching attempt.

You can even reinvent some iconic mystery puzzles you see in your favourite movies like “The Da Vinci Code” starring Tom Hanks. That can be a little much and honestly controversial. But it is your cache, so it is up to you on how you are going to make this one of the most memorable geocaching experiences ever.

An Unforgettable Prize

For most caches, people find random items and a paper with a list of people who found the cache. One of the most exciting and thrilling parts of geocaching is the time between finding the cache and seeing what is inside.

As the owner, you know how hard it was to find your cache so you might want to reward people for locating it. Some people, believe it or not, are hiding cash and some even jewellery.

This is not just an incentive by the way. Geocaching is always worth your while whatever you find.

Some participants are planning on hiding concert tickets in their caches for the first individual to find the cache.

Go Overseas

That’s right, some cache owners fly overseas to other countries just to hide their treasures. In geocaching, the application mostly shows you the closest cache nearby. But that does not mean you can’t go looking for caches that are thousands of miles away from you.

That is why geocaching is inspiring more and more people to travel. One of the biggest highlights in geocaching is the destination. We have had seen caches hidden at remote areas from Auckland, New Zealand to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
